Sookie was the first rescue cat who came into our lives. She was adopted while my husband was volunteering at an animal shelter in Virginia. After being returned twice, Sookie finally found her forever home.
She brought joy, patience, and perspective into our family. Through her, we experienced firsthand the impact that rescue organizations have — not only on animals, but on the people who welcome them home.
When Sookie passed, we wanted her story to mean something beyond our own home.
Sookie Saves was created to honor her legacy by supporting the organizations that make rescue possible. We saw how hard rescues and no-kill shelters work — often with limited resources — to protect and care for vulnerable animals.
Instead of becoming a rescue ourselves, we chose a different role.
Sookie Saves is a nonprofit assisting rescues and no-kill shelters by helping fund urgent needs such as food, medical care, facility repairs, and essential supplies.
Every rescue animal deserves stability, safety, and care.
By supporting the organizations doing this work every day, we can strengthen the entire rescue community and help more animals find permanent, loving homes — just like Sookie did.
Her story is where we began. The mission continues through every partnership and every life supported.
